Installation and Animation film

The film is about the story of migration of landscape – the politics of landscape – and negotiations of space. It takes you through the 20th century and enters 21st century with the notion of future infrastructure of modernity which might take the human race away from the nature to a human made look alike. Many references of art history and film history and history of land. It is a play of visuals with metaphors of layers- which gives you a visual pleasure along with conflict of landscapes.

Reincarnating the genre of film shooting with painted backdrops for landscapes, the installation invites the viewer to participate in the process of image reproduction. Through the contemporary video device, the viewer can opt to be a part of animated outdoor images while comfortably placed within an indoor space.

This is a tribute to the convention of painted backdrop in early cinema. Set up like an indoor studio floor, the installation has a screen on which an animation film of painted cityscape is projected. As a gym cycle, placed in front of the screen, gets activated by a spectator/cyclist, two cameras shoot the cyclist and throw the image back on the screen. The composite image makes the cyclist a protagonist of the road movie.
